Facial scrub help you exfoliate your skin by removing dead and flaky skin. The skin gets flaky because of dryness, which could be a result of weather change or lack of moisturizing. Regardless of the reason, using a face scrub helps you get rid of that dead layer of skin exposing a more radiant face. It is also required for you to scrub your face at least twice a week to really clean out your pores which will in turn help in keeping them smaller.

10 DIY face scrub recipes

1. Sugar scrub

Let’s start off with the very simple and easy sugar scrub.

Ingredients:

1 teaspoon organic cane sugar (or granulated sugar)

1 tablespoon of water

1 tablespoon Olive, lemon, Coconut or tea tree essential oil (optional)

How to:

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Using the tips of your fingers, gently rub scrub into clean face. Take care to avoid the eyes. Leave on for at least 5 minutes, then rinse off thoroughly with cool water, and pat dry with a clean towel.

 

2. Chocolate sugar face scrub

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder

How to:

Mix in the cocoa powder and the brown sugar in a bowl before adding in the oil. It will create a thick consistency, depending on how you may like it against your skin, you can go in with a table spoon of water to make it a thinner consistency. The result will be the same regardless, try not to be too harsh with your skin.

 

3. Cucumber face scrub

This face scrub is very easy to make and gives a calming spa effect when applied. Perfect for sensitive dry skin.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons plain, sugar-free yogurt

2 tablespoons pureed cucumber

2 tablespoons oatmeal

How to:

To use cucumbers, you already have at home, you can just blend it until smooth. No need sieving to extract the juice, you can use the whole thing. Get two spoons of the blended cucumber, mix in the yogurt and oatmeal.

 

4. Oatmeal face scrub

Ingredients:

1/2 cup of uncooked oats

2 tablespoon honey

1 teaspoon nutmeg

2 tablespoon lavender essential oil

2 tablespoon tea tree essential oil (or any 2 essential oils of choice)

How to:

Blend the oat meal lightly, don’t let it get too smooth it becomes powder. Transfer the blended oatmeal into another bowl and then add in the rest of the ingredients, mix thoroughly before applying onto face.

 

5. Coffee scrub

This is a good facial scrub for the morning to give your face a little wake me up. It is filled with antioxidants and collagen which keeps your skin looking youthful and toned. It helps you recycle as well, use your brewed coffee.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon coffee grounds

1 tablespoon oil (jojoba, olive, or rosehip)

How to:

As mentioned earlier you can just use your already brewed coffee, even if wet. Just add in oil and mix it… you’ve got yourself a DIY homemade facial scrub. This is actually my personal fave, I make coffee every morning, it’s a win win.

 

6. Blueberry face scrub

Ingredients:

1/2 cup fresh blueberries

2 tablespoon honey

2 tablespoon sugar

How to:

Use a food processor to make the blueberries into a paste, then mic=x in the honey and sugar. Transfer into a bowl and apply generously to face.

 

7. Rice face scrub

Brown rice is very good for discoloration, it is good for brightening any hyperpigmentation, while the egg is very good for firming up pores.

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons brown rice

1 Egg white

How to:

Using a coffee grinder, grind the brown rice until turned into powder. Get a bowl and whisk your egg white until foamy. Add in the grinded rice and stir to make a paste. Apply to face in circular motions and rise thoroughly with warm water after 5 to 10 minutes.

 

8. Lemon Face scrub

 Ingredients:

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp organic honey

Juice from 1/2 lemon

1/2 cup granulated sugar

How to:

Mix in honey, lemon and olive oil in a bowl. Make sure everything is fully combined before adding in sugar to the mixture. Mix that in thoroughly as well, then apply onto face in circular motion. Rinse face after 10 minutes with warm water.

 

9. Green tea face scrub

Green tea has very amazing benefits. It keeps your skin looking youthful, by eliminating wrinkles and fine lines. It reduces blemishes and can also double as a sunscreen. Use frequently for best results.

Ingredients:

5 green tea bags

3 tablespoons white sugar

2 tablespoons honey

How to:

Cut open your tea bags into a bowl. Then add in white sugar, and lastly honey. Mix everything thoroughly to create a paste. Apply evenly all over your face, leave for 10 minutes.

 

10. Cinnamon face scrub

This is another one of my faves. It leaves your skin looking and feeling radiant. It has anti inflammatory properties, which helps with a puffy face. I sleep on my face so I always have a puffy face when I wake up. This really comes in handy.

Ingredient:

1 tablespoon honey

1 tablespoon ground cinnamon

1 egg white

How to:

Put the ground cinnamon into a bowl and add in the honey and the egg white. Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Apply over face, and leave for 20 minutes.

*warning: You will feel a burning sensation. Not going to lie, the first time I tried this I had no idea, I was convinced I had burned my skin off lol

But eventually you get used to the burn, and almost look forward to it. Not to mention, the after effect on your skin, it will be worth it.

 

Side note for all the facial scrubs, if your skin reacts to any of the ingredient, just go to the next one, that’s why there are several. You will always find one that works for you. Scrub your face twice or three times a week. Do not do it daily, that will be too harsh for your skin.
