Skincare Routine Basics
Here are the basics you need to know when it comes to building a skin care routine as a beginner!
Know your skin type
Knowing your skin type is mandatory when it comes to building a skincare routine. Not every products is for everyone, that is why at least a little bit of research is required when it comes to buying product you apply to your face. But you cannot even know what kind of products you need it you don't first understand what your skin type is. Here is a little guide that will help you figure out what your skin type is.
Know the order of applying skincare products
A lot of times people don't really know what product comes before what or after what. If you want to get the most out of your products, you want to be sure of the steps and how to apply them. For an in-depth explanation of the perfect skincare steps, you can read How to get glass skin naturally at home.
I go into detail of every step and why it is essential, that way it will help you determine if it something you need for your skin type. Every product does different things, it is up to you to figure out which products you really need for your skin type, which is why knowing your skintype is necessary.
You should have a skincare routine for morning and nighttime. The goal here is to get your skin looking its best, radiating and glowing. Here is the exact order you are expected to apply your skincare products. Why the products you use at night are a little more than the day time is because your skin regenerates at night, so in order to maximize your product benefits, you apply them at night. You wake up glowing.
It is also adviced to sleep with a silk pillow case. Silk does not absorb moisture, unlike cotton. With cotton pillow cases your products end up getting absorrbed by the fabric even before the first half of the night. Invest in a good silk pillow case, that way your products stay the whole night on your skin. You will only lose ery little product. It is also very good for growing your hair, less friction and keeps your products in your hair.
You can also wrap your pillow with a silk scarf, improvise! it's just that sometimes, it comes off in the middle of the night. If you have a chance just change all your pillow cases to silk.
Know the benefits of each step
As mentioned earlier, when you truly understand what each product does, you know which your skin needs and which one does not. It is not everything you may end up needing. It also helps you with a starting point, instead of going to buy everything on the list, you can start with the most important and build up from there.

You can also start small
As a beginner, it is truly not necessary to have everything from the start. Build your way up as you find what your skin loves the most and doesn't. Not to mention a lot of times skincare products can be expensive. Even though there are very good affordable products. But by the time you buy everything it adds up, buying them all at once can be expensive.
If you want to have a skincare routine on a budget, you should know what the important basic products are. These alone will give you results, and as time goes by, you add a new step, and another and before you know it you have incorporated all the steps to your routine.
These steps are also steps that are not debatable. While the rest of the products can be debated, these are the foundation of skincare. You can get your free downloadable skincare guide here.
- Cleansing: is necessary because it helps in removing dirt from the skin, clearing your pores and exposing a clearer fresh layer of the skin. We are often times exposed to a lot of chemicals and dirt in the atmosphere, I cannot stress how cleansing is crucial. Just the same way you need to take a bath daily, is the same way you should cleanse your face daily. The face has a more delicate skin than the rest of your body.
- Toning: helps in balancing the skin. It provides your skin with important nutrients after cleansing. It will make your skin look radiant and glowy.
- Moisturizing: hydrates and softens the skin. While toner balances your skin after cleansing, moisturizer hydrates the skin and keep it healthy and youthful. You cannot miss this step. Preferably get a moisturizer that has SPF in it so that it can protect you from sunlight in the day time.
Give it time
The reality of reaping the benefits of your products is by using it consistently over a period of time. There is no such thing as a quick fix, and if you are ever given a quick fix product, RUN.lol.. For real though!
Every good and effective product needs time for it to work. It needs to slowly penetrate your skin, fixing it from the inside out. As someone starting out you need to know you are not going to see a tremendous difference within a week of using a product. In fact Dr. Rachel Nazarian says;
'Aim to use a product over at least six weeks, once or twice daily, to notice a difference'
I need you to understand that aanyone you see with good skin took them time to get to that result and as long as you stick to your routine and stay consistent, you too shall see results. Don't get mad if you fall off the wagon a few times with consistency, just keep on going and you will get there.
