Are there any risks?

According to research turmeric is generally considered to save products when used already or topically. As for when applied in skin care, there are no known side effects of turmeric. However, there’s never any harm in doing a patch test first before applying the whole product to your face.
For a patch test you basically apply a little bit on your arm or a part of your neck.
Then you have to wait for at least a day to see if there’s going to be any reactions or not.
If you don’t notice any reaction, rashes or redness, swelling at all in the area where you applied the facemask then you can go ahead and apply it all over your face.
Also pay attention to the other ingredients you mix in your face mask to make sure they are not items you react to. I would advise mixing just turmeric and water to be sure you don’t react to it. Because when you mix it with other products you may not be sure what you are actually reacting to.
SN. Beware that turmeric can stain any surface it comes in contact with, so be careful and apply it over your sink. Make sure you wash the sink immediately after you are done.
Does it expire?
When it comes to DIY skin care products the shelf life always varies. But to be on the safe side, it is advised to keep your finished products refrigerated in a close jar. It should not be kept for more than two weeks even in the fridge.
If you’re not too sure of the products to put in your fridge, then maybe you should check out “What skin care products should be refrigerated”.
Takeaway
You don’t need store bought overpriced products to make a difference to your skincare routine. A DIY turmeric face mask is a good natural alternative to help you reduce skin concerns relating to inflammation, hyperpigmentation, irritation, skin texture, fine lines and wrinkles.
Just keep in mind like any other skin care products you need time and consistency to fully see the results. Especially when it comes to homemade products, you need a little bit more patience. But the results are always worth it, and there’s less risk of irritation.
